7 Rules for Amazing Women

I’ve been working with women for more than 20 years now. I see so many talented brilliant women, lots of them. Many of them are dedicated, talented and great women.

Are you one of those women? Does this sound familiar to you?

Or are you still unaware of your own greatness. Do you still feel that ‘you are just not ready yet’ and ‘I still need to learn something more before I take the next step, the next promotion, the next level’.

Are you still focusing on what you are not yet qualified than on what you are? Are you still waiting for someone to approve of you, someone that will promote you or even discover how great you are?

It’s time you step up, and own your greatness. There has never been a better time in history for women to step up then today.

Here are seven principles for owning your greatness and bringing it to the world:

#1
Make a promise to yourself

No one else is going to create the life you dream of. No one else will even know what it is or even completely understand it. Once you start walking your own path towards that dream, amazing people will show up to support you along the way, but this is YOUR life. Make a promise to yourself to become your own supportive friend along the way.

#2
Visualize it

What does your dream life look like for you? What is the career or business that seems so incredible for you that it’s almost criminal not to have it? What is the dream you don’t allow yourself to even consider because it seems too unrealistic, lively, or insane? Start visualizing it. That’s the beginning of having it.

#3
Challenge that voice

Challenge the voice that tells you that you’re not ready yet. I know, I know, you’ll always be able to prove there is more to learn and prepare. This makes you so great and with high standards. You see every way that you could be more qualified. You notice every part of your idea that is not perfected yet. But here is the problem – while you are waiting to be ready, gathering more experience, sitting on your ideas, our friends [in rule five] are being promoted, getting raises, and seeing their ideas come to life in the world. They are no more ready than you, and perhaps less. Jump into the game now, and start playing full out. Find out just how ready you are.

#4
Stop looking for approval

If you take risks, sometimes you’ll get a standing ovation, and sometimes, people will throw tomatoes. Think of any leader or innovator whom you admire and you’ll find out that they have both enthusiastic fans and harsh critics. Think Apple. Get used to the fact that sometimes you will win and sometimes you’ll lose. Get ready to be praised and criticized, to get a call back and to being ignored. Work on letting go of needing to be liked and needing to be universally known as ‘a nice person’.

#5
Give yourself the permission to lead

Don’t wait to be praised, approved or validated. Don’t wait for someone to give you permission to lead. Don’t wait for someone to invite you to share your voice. No one is going to discover you. Well, actually, they will, but paradoxically, only after you’ve started boldly and consistently stepping into leadership, sharing your voice, and doing things that scare the hell out of you.

#6
Feedback is just someone else’s opinion

Most great women are humble and open to guidance. We want to gather feedback and advice. Fine, but realize that some people won’t understand what you are up to [often because you are saying something new and ahead of your time]. Some people will not like what you say. Some will feel threatened. Some people will want to use your idea for their benefit. So listen to feedback carefully. Choose the ones that are relevant to you. Test advice and evaluate the results, rather than following it blindly.

#7
Acknowledge other great women

Let them know what kind of greatness you see in them, and why it’s so special. Challenge them to step into and owning their own greatness. Let them know that they are ready. Create an environment of great women around you that will support you!
