Get 2014 Started! 7 Tips

After analyzing two million tweets that were posted, researchers have named this past Monday [January 6th] as the most depressing day of the year…

Pretty uplifting, huh? But here is the good news. It is Thursday!

January is on a roll now and already a week ‘old’. Instead of adding more stress to your life by focusing on the huge goals to accomplish in this year, why not start off with seven small things you can do to give you a feeling of instant success?

Here are seven suggestions to generate some momentum!

#1
Tell one person each week that you love them

It’s too easy to forget to tell people that we care about them. This year, make it a special promise to yourself that you’ll tell at least one person, each week, that you love them and that you’re grateful to have them in your life.

#2
Add a little spirituality to your daily life

Spirituality is not a hobby, it is the foundation of our existence. It is wise to consciously cultivate it in your life. It is not so difficult and possibilities are endless! Meditate, travel inward for 10-20 minutes a day. Find a creative hobby to express your inner self. Take yoga classes. Pray. Start each day with an intention. End each day with gratitude.

#3
Spend time with your best friend

A one-hour lunch, a movie, a walk in the park… it doesn’t matter what you do together, as long as you spend time with each other. You will get a sense of companionship and you’ll be going a long way towards stress relief. Spend time with your best friend at least once a month!

#4
Smile… a lot!

Smiling definitely is an easy, healthy habit to form. Smiling happens without much thought. It is a very natural response that shares our happiness with others. It makes you happy, even when you’re not, and it make others happy. Smiling feels good, helps you to de-stress and makes you attractive. Instant success guaranteed!

#5
Make people more important than fortune or fame
[click to tweet]
If you knew that today was your last day to live what would you do? I imagine your answer isn’t to spend the day working harder and getting more accomplished. You would spend time with friends and family, or do something that we have always dreamed of doing. We always make time for the things that are important to us: eating, showering, Facebook, watching our favorite TV shows. Why not skip some of those [and I don't suggest eating or showering!] and make more time for people?

#6
Stop gossiping, judging and complaining

Judging and complaining lowers your consciousness. It is reacting to life instead of creating it. Keep up a positive, optimistic, and compassionate attitude. Let go of judgement and let go of the negativity. Success will develop more effortlessly. Like Eleanor Roosevelt said: ‘Great minds discuss ideas, average minds discuss events, small minds discuss people.’

#7
Just choose to be happy

You don’t need anything to be happy. The ultimate myth about happiness is believing it is in things beyond yourself. People believe that happiness will come along when they get a new car, a new job or a new relationship. But in the end these external sources of happiness are fleeting. You are responsible for your own happiness. Happiness is a choice. Difficult? Do the happiness challenge!
